Re: bad roommates thread
Last year I lived in a four room pod in a dorm. One of my roommates was from China, this is important.
The first term, she'd be leaving and coming back to the dorm at all random hours of the night, and she'd bring her boyfriend in as well; not bad by itself, but he was a smoker, and the whole place would smell of it.
The second term, we didn't see her at all, to the point where all three of us (one of our roommates was the RA) were worried for her safety, because literally no one knew where she was, not the RA, not the RD, no one.
She had gone home to China for a term without telling anyone.
The third (and final) term, she just moved in with her boyfriend, without breaking her contract or leaving a forwarding address, and leaving all of her stuff, meaning the rest of us were potentially still on the hook for not cleaning up after her & her stuff. We did work it out with the RD, though, in the end.
Plus, we had a whole dorm-but-not-really of people who wanted to move into a proper dorm, and needed housing, and the fact that she just left, and didn't even live in the place, but still had the room when so many people needed housing still rubbed me the wrong way, personally.

Also, cigarette smoke = ewwwwwwwwwww. I couldn't live with someone who was a smoker or brought one inside constantly. It would not work.

Yeah. We had to keep opening the windows to air out the smell of smoke, and the constant heat shifts throughout the place fried the heater I had for my fish, and killed it. :(
