I agree with this up to the point that said fans are not actively ruining anyone else's good time. I went to go see The Avengers some time after the initial opening, and was in the theater with a pack of girls that had seen it several times already--and they were extremely obnoxious. Giggling loudly throughout, literally shrieking during "shippy" moments, shouting memes. I asked them to be quiet to no avail, so I ended up having to leave the theater to get a staff member.

So yes, you can be an excited fan, but there is a time and place for it.

I feel like that's a given and it definitely isn't the sort of thing I was talking about.

Those girls sound really, really annoying. Did they get kicked out?

DA I wish I could agree with your point, but the above has always been like my experience with vocal fans.

Hmm...that seems odd to me. Maybe we're defining it differently? If by "vocal" you mean "loud and don't know when to shut up" then yeah I totally agree. But if you just mean "outspoken" as in, not ashamed of what they like and not willing to put it under wraps just because people don't want to be around nerds then I think we have very different experiences indeed.
