This is my place to say I FUCKING HATE THAT GUY.

First, I think he's lying about how much he doesn't know for comic effect, and the fact the entire premise of his blog is a fucking lie bothers me. (If he's not lying, he's a prig who must have spent half his conversations about pop culture over the last 15 years going LALALA and shielding his ears because !!!!OMGSPOILERS!!!! and I still hate him.)

Second, the list of things not to do in his comment section for fear of being offensive is like a parody of SJWs. I'm pretty politically correct myself, but there's a point where it just gets ridiculous.

In conclusion, Mark sucks.

I get being relatively spoiler free for things (for instance, I don't really know anything about the non-Enterprise Star Treks or Haven or Game of Thrones), but I agree that I don't think he's as spoiler-free as he claims to be. And oh my god, I'm so tired of watching him lose his shit because Mrs. Landingham appeared in a West Wing flashback or Smash Williams was mentioned on Friday Night Lights. "No! NO! NO!!! You can't DO THAT!!!"

And he likes those characters! I would hate to be so fragile that the mere sight of a departed beloved character sends me into fits of distraught feels.

Okay, I mainly know him through his HP readings (and Hunger Games--those are the only two "Mark Reads..." iterations I've followed)--but is it *he* who flips out because of "spoilers"? Because what I always noticed was the constant, CONSTANT camp counselor bullshit from other posters. Like when someone would say about, say, Sirius, early in PoA, "I love that character!" and someone else would flip the fuck out. It gets to a point where you can only have the most innocuous, bland conversations because EVERYTHING is supposedly a spoiler, any kind of reaction other than "keep reading" is policed somehow. It got very annoying and I loved it when finally someone spoke back to one of the main camp counselors (as I call them, when someone who is not officially in charge or authorized takes it upon themselves to police others) and it turned into an actual argument, like stop telling the rest of us what to do and just calm down. It's especially silly because with the sheer amount of comment verbiage generated on that blog, Mark would never notice a statement like "I like Sirius" but when you screech "that's a spoiler!!!!!!" uh, now it is! Your reaction just made it one!

tl; dr I do like reading the HP blogs but man, a few of those commenters are ANNOYING.

Oh, also (to the anon who posted the Mark Reads criticism)--I didn't read HP until '09 when my brother gave me the series and I was completely unspoiled (I mean, completely--end of HBP devastated me. I finished it at work, big mistake) so it can happen. In fact I was less spoiled than Mark was, at least he knew that twist!
