Highlander (movie). I love it but it's so dated. I'd be afraid it would be ruined and no one could surpass Clancy Brown's Kurgan, but every time I watch it I want a remake.

THIS. It has so much potential with better casting and special effects, though I agree it'd be hard to top Clancy Brown.

The only thing I know about Highlander is that one of the movies is terrible. And that there can only be one.

The first one is the only good one. The sequels are just bad, especially the second one. When a series fucks up its own canon, I get twitchy.

and yes. there can be only one.

Disagree. IMO, the first is the only PASSABLE one.

It's got a brilliant premise, The World's Best Soundtrack* and a great performance by Brown.

On the other hand, it's horribly underwritten, and Lambert and Connery's performances are the exact opposite of great.

(On the gripping hand, it's got Sean 'I'm so Scottish I piss whisky' Connery shuddering at the thought of haggis, so, there is that.)

The TV series, despite having a shaky first season, and a terrible final season, is, on the whole, a much better realization of the premise. It had issues, even in the good seasons, of course, but at least it ran with the interesting part of the premise. (I'd be happy if the Gathering was discarded altogether in a remake - the Game could be an ongoing power struggle rather than something with a fixed end, or the conflicts could just be because Immortals would tend to make a lot of persistent enemies.)

* Hyperbole, but A Kind of Magic is an awesome, awesome album.

I just love that it was written as a film student's final exam. One minute he was handing it to his professor and the next minute he was on a plane to Hollywood with Sean Connery. And that Queen put together most of the soundtrack in the car on the way home from seeing the rough cut.

IIRC, they are doing a reboot of of the original movie.
