(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 07:52 am (UTC)(link)As someone who has struggled with gender dysphoria for decades, since before the term was even used, I find it offensive that people think a male role should be changed to a female role to satisfy their flawed view of gender equality. Disregarding half a century of canon to do it is sickening, though of course Moffat has set the precedence for that so I can forgive new fans for not understanding the importance of respecting canon.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)Moffat did not set precedence for anything, practically every showrunner since the first one has had a different vision and then you add in the books and audios, who the hell even knows what canon is any more.
And swapping gender shouldn't cause the focus to be limited in the slightest and whether or not you think it's a good idea (and yes, the ease of how it might slip into being offensive is definitely a significant argument) the idea that the Doctor Who show would be all about how she's a girl now if they change her sex is sexist.
