Oh, for God's sake. 'Ladies' being so much less awesome and all.

Sigh. Misogyny.

The Doctor is a Time Lord, the Gallifreyan equivalent to a man. They do not regularly (ever?) gender swap. The Doctor has been a Time Lord for over a thousand years. Swapping gender would create problems that would limit the focus of the series to the gender swap. The Doctor clearly identifies solely as Time Lord and the character would suffer greatly if forced to change his identity. Plus the whole issue of why he suddenly became a Time Lady when it isn't something that normally happens. Based on what we know, only one Gallifreyan has swapped genders and literally everyone else regenerates into the gender they were first born as. It's why no one ever questions what pronouns to use when talking about someone they know or suspect to have regenerated without having seen them in the meantime.

As someone who has struggled with gender dysphoria for decades, since before the term was even used, I find it offensive that people think a male role should be changed to a female role to satisfy their flawed view of gender equality. Disregarding half a century of canon to do it is sickening, though of course Moffat has set the precedence for that so I can forgive new fans for not understanding the importance of respecting canon.

'Canon' is contradictory, often absurd and ridiculous. It is most certainly not sacrosanct, certainly not only the level of yours and others' struggles with gender dysphoria and not the least bit 'sickening' to ignore it.

Moffat did not set precedence for anything, practically every showrunner since the first one has had a different vision and then you add in the books and audios, who the hell even knows what canon is any more.

And swapping gender shouldn't cause the focus to be limited in the slightest and whether or not you think it's a good idea (and yes, the ease of how it might slip into being offensive is definitely a significant argument) the idea that the Doctor Who show would be all about how she's a girl now if they change her sex is sexist.
