when you are in the mood to read OTP fic, what kind do you generally like? are you a PWP/smut fan? do you like story fic with a bit of shipping on the side? what's your general style f!s!

i find most of the fandoms i have been in, ship fic seems to center just on sex sex sex. which i don't care much about. my favorite fics are ones where my OTP is present and have romantic interactions but there's some kind of bigger plot or mystery to the story. so mostly....i end up reading gen fic and shipping between the lines.

Identity porn fics. No porn.

I don't.

I go for shippy fanart instead.

Hurt/Comfort. Always hurt/comfort. Max on the hurt and Max on the comfort. Then again, I am that way with gen fics too.

And I love PWP. Hell, I will read PWP of some pairings I don't even like if the fic I really good. Or a good PWP with make me a fan of that pairing (Loki/Bucky, man).

AUs where one of them is a mermaid.

With my OTPs, they're OTPs because I like their actual interaction. If it's reduced to sex, then it usually just goes into typical porn stuff and it's not even like reading any particular pairing at all. If I'm going to bother reading it, there needs to be stuff going on that lets them interact in interesting ways beyond smut.

This could take the form of plotty fic that's almost gen except that the characters are a couple (although I'm totally cool if the fic IS gen and the characters just have the right dynamic with each other that I enjoy so much), or just little slice of life things with conversations between the two of them, or one reflecting on the other, or whatnot. If there's a sex scene, okay, but there needs to be way more than that to make me want to read it.

And I will pass on the PWP. Ugh.

Anything but angst, and fics where the couple has a major conflict based solely on a stupid misunderstanding that could be resolved in a few freaking minutes if they would just talk to each other.

AUs, typically. Or just in general fluffy things.

(When I write them, it seems to oscillate between AUs, fluffy things, and angst, with tons of arguing regardless pretty much.)

Eh, I don't care about the sex, but I need at least a kiss or some acknowledgement. Pre-pairing fics annoy me when I'm looking for ship fic.

My favorites have a lot of tropes, but generally some combination of mutual pining, get together, and plot. I also have a weird weakness for "pretend relationships become real relationships," because why the hell not apparently.

I'm kind of curious about which fandoms you're used to, too, if you don't mind sharing? A lot of the fandoms I've been in lately get the opposite complaint.

It depends, sometimes I'm only after PWP's, other times I want the fluffiest shit known to man, and others I want something a bit more plotty with some romance thrown in.

progression. falling in love, or getting over something that's been standing between them, or just getting closer...if it involves something as innocent as having an inside joke now when they were distant before, or as not innocent as pr0n, as long as the status quo isn't maintained. So story-based and character-based, I guess.

(I think that's one of the reasons I like Tyrion/Sansa fic so much, cause in canon the starting point is so awkward that the fic writer HAS to show some progress before they can jump into the porn or fluff or whatever. Also the first comes marriage then comes love trope is somehow guh for me)

I like novel-length angsty fic with a happy ending.

Not that kind of happy ending... although, if a fic did end with that I probably wouldn't object.

Story fic with UST and stoic men internally coming to grips with tender feelings. Dumb romance tropes are nice, but only when characters are also shown to be intelligent and competent adults.

Angsty fic to the hilt -- that doesn't come from cheating -- with a happy ending.

MAKE IT RAIN PAIN and then cuddle.

If it's an OTP that is still in the will they/won't they thing, I LOVE long fic that explores them getting together.

If it's a crack pair, that's what I love exclusively cause, in canon, it ain't gonna happen.

Otherwise, I like angst fic and/or fluff fic.

I occasionally look for smut, but I'm not as into reading them as I used to be.

OH. And, if there's a call for it, i LOVE a good Zombie AU where the pair is trying to survive.

TBBT had a few really good ones for Shenny a while back.

My faves are either non-AUs where they get together or complete AUs where they meet and get together. I will read established relationship but those aren't what I look for first. As far as plot vs. PWP, I like both.

Cute and fluffy, or something with an actual plot unrelated to the 'ship, where they're being cute during/between the action.

No porn.

For non-canon or arguably-canon 'ships I'm very fond of stories about them getting together, especially if one or the other is adorably awkward. (I've, oddly, no desire to read 'how it happened' stories about canon relationships that happen to have started before the series/movie, unless they are part of the canon...)

For my OTP proper? Any sort of interaction! For most of my other OTPs? Really fluffy stuff. Really my problem is I'm so fic-starved I don't /KNOW/ what I like. (I'm fine with smut but I'd rather there be more than just smut (Not even in one individual fic so much as like, there existing other non-smut fics).)

Long and plotty. When I read shorter things I prefer hurt/comfort. (Long plotty stuff with hurt/comfort is a major plus, but it doesn't have to be.)

I'm not really ever into shipping for the smut. When there's fics with porny bits I just kinda skip past them to get to more of the ~GOOD STUFF~ (that is, character interactions... or moments of hurt/comfort of course)

If I'm only in it for the shipping? usually fluff.

Usually I go for plot with my porn. Or sometimes not even porn, just romance with plot in it. Or more plot with romance in it, really.

I love a good plot. Fun interactions, plot porn, but no actual porn. I'd much rather read about the characters interacting with their canon personalities; porn fics can really warp a character.

Well if I'm horny I'd obviously like PWP, fast and to the point with as much details as possible

Just for general reading hmmmm I like the long stories with some action, danger etc etc that bring the two closer together. Like such and such recovering from an injury, or the perils of dating each other etc etc

For real OTP stuff, I like long, really slow-moving, really detailed, almost contemplative fics that focus really closely on everything that happens, and ideally on the response that everyone has to it. Whether it's hurt/comfort, whether it's fluff, whether it's very plotty or falling in love fic, I want it to move as slowly as possible and I want it to last a long time.
