There was this one time when I was over at a friend's house, just me (a Christian), my friend whose house it was (an agnostic at that point), and another friend (a wiccan), and all of us got this weird, eerie feeling when we went to the attic where the bedrooms were. Me and the wiccan friend were both like "Yeah, something just doesn't feel right here..." and wiccan friend went out into the other room that belonged to our friend's brother, and felt it even stronger, and pointed me to this one place... and we both agreed, it felt colder there, right in this one spot over a round carpet, and it made our skin crawl. And we were all adults at this point, in our late teens/early 20s, so this wasn't just some kids getting each other psyched out.

Both of us were highly creeped out at that point so went back to our friend's room, and she lit a white candle and I said some prayers - and we started hearing noises from the creepy area. We stayed right there in our friend's room, both of us basically using our own methods of warding, until his brother got home, and wiccan friend basically interrogated him.

Turned out our friend's brother had casually decided he wanted to try to summon something. I don't know all the details, because I got out of there as soon as I could because it was creeping me out being anywhere near there even before we got any sort of an explanation. But he'd tried some kind of spell just for laughs, and ... allegedly something happened, more than he was expecting?

But at any rate, before he got home, we sat there in the one friend's room for quite some time practicing our respective religions and discussing the differences and similarities, and in that respect, it was a great experience. No hate between any of us, just different beliefs working together with the same goal in mind, and no one was struck by lightning or cursed or whatever.

But I was really glad when our friend's family moved out of that house not much later. I was honestly worried about him.

Mysteriously snuffed out candles, weird sensations and shivers down the spine may not be due to the presence of ghosts in haunted houses but to very low frequency sound that is inaudible to humans. British scientists have shown in a controlled experiment that the extreme bass sound known as infrasound produces a range of bizarre effects in people including anxiety, extreme sorrow and chills — supporting popular suggestions of a link between infrasound and strange sensations.

That is really fascinating. I should see if I can find the journal article.

So I have heard! When I had cable, I was a big fan of Mythbusters, and they did an episode about this. =)
