The Doctor regenerating as a woman is a bad idea for a number of reasons.

1) Moffat is still the show runner, and I don't want to hear the fandom whine like a bunch of children over Moffat's portrayal of female characters. Not that they don't have legitimate criticisms, but jfc.

2) There are really only two ways to write it, and no matter how it goes, someone will be up in arms calling bullshit on it. If they try to write a legitimate case of gender dysphoria into it, the conservatives will flip their collective bigotted shit about how the BBC is "pushing their liberal agenda", which will cause the SJWs to flip their shit at the conservatives for daring to dislike something that disagrees with their ideals. On the other hand, if they write it as just something that happens and "oh, I've got etheric beam locators!", the SJWs will still flip their just-as-bigotted shit because ~*~trans erasure~*~ or whatever the piss they want to call it.

Fucking this. Like, sure, he has issues, but his virulent haters are vastly more irritating at this point.

These are the only two legitimate reasons I've seen for not having a female Doctor. I have to admit all the "but I don't WANT a female Doctor!" really smacks of sexism to me, but these reasons that you've articulated (and a few others have, but not as concisely) work for me.

I still think, on a superficial level, that it would be great to have a female Doctor. However, I can see why that would not work, at least right now. So, thanks for pointing this out.
