The only time I think would be right for trying to give a female Doctor would be when the writers are really behind it and exciting with working with it and doing it right. Otherwise you're going to get a mess.

Personally I think it'd be cool to see but I'm not pushing for it, but current seasons to to step up on their companions. Amy and Clara were pretty useless.

And there is absolutely no reason why the Doctor couldn't have been another race.
