hair experts

how would one achieve this hair style? I don't necessarily mean the half updo, but I really like the mermaid wave, and I have no idea how to do this for myself. it's one of my favourite styles and I've never had it done!

:)

Because of the way this gif moves, I can't look at it without thinking of a puppy dragging its ass across a carpet.

No idea how that hair works, sorry.

I don't think so :( part of why I can't find any tutorials on it is because I have no idea what it's called.

Re: hair experts

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You should be able to look it up on youtube. There are a lot of people who do tutorials for make up/hair/nails/etc on there.

Otherwise...I got no clue. Sorry.

My hair always looks like that right after I wash it.

DOES THAT MEAN I'VE BEEN A MERMAID ALL ALONG AND NEVER KNEW IT?!

Braid your hair while still damp. I can get my hair like that if I do, like, three loosely braided chunks.

I think:

(1) Dirty hair
(2) Braid it up
(3) Add hairspray
(4) Unbraid
(5) Tease/shake

Voila!

Try a curling iron or hair curlers?

I have a couple suggestions because results will depend on your hair length and texture.
1. wash your hair in the evening. after it's dry, french braid it into two separate braids and sleep on it. in the morning undo them, voila
2. using a 1-inch curling iron, curl your hair into ringlets (they don't have to be tight). then brush them out.

if those don't work, I don't know how else you might try. I'm also speaking as a person with curly hair so the first one may not work as well if your hair is naturally straight.

You can get something close to that affect by wrapping your hair in rags.

1. Get rags, cotton's best, appx an inch wide and appx 6-8 inches long
2. Wash hair
3. Separate your hair into strands, appx the thickness of your thumb
4. Tie rag at the bottom of the strand. Roll it up kind of like a curler
5. Tie off the rag at the top of the strand (or as high as you can stand it; I've got a sensitive head, and can't have anything too tight near my scalp)
6. Leave in overnight. Do not use a blow dryer.
7. Unwrap the next day. I'd brush mine to make loose, thick waves; to get the affect above, you might need a light styling spray on each strand after you unwind it.

In addition to the damp braids thing- maybe try a salt water spray? I have never used one but I hear they're very good for getting more texturized hair. Some hair companies manufacture them but you can also make your own- here's one promising recipe, and here's a lot of options from makeupalley readers.

You need a deep waver! This (http://www.amazon.com/Bed-Head-BH305-Deep-Waver/dp/B003FBI9LS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383806614&sr=8-1&keywords=bedhead+deep+waver) is the one I have, and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1LdSdMoIyE) tutorial will show you exactly how to do it.

When I'm looking for the mermaid wave, my personal experience has been that it's best to braid my hair in two separate braids and sleep with them that way/leave them braided for a while. When I eventually unbraid them, I've got some nice mermaid waves.
