I love it when people tell you what they want. I know some folks like a little surprise, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, but knowing what they want is so much easier than having to guess. Especially in the case of someone like your bf, because even if you know them extremely well, especially if you know them extremely well, you might buy them something they already own.

It's happened to me before, too.

I think it's the most fun when you have a solid idea of the sort of thing they want, either because you figure it out or they tell you, and then you can pick out something special on your own. But it's so frustrating when you have NO IDEA, and you ask them and they're like "I don't really know" or "you don't have to buy me anything honey!" (gah, I want to! it doesn't have to be expensive or fancy but I want it to be special)

Sometimes if I know someone too well it will make buying them a gift even harder because I over-think the whole thing. So it definitely can be much easier having someone go 'I would like this___'. :P
