I give zero shits about this show and the character, but I have a lot of rl friends who fucking love it and have strong opinions and I'm done hearing about it for one reason: the fact that it's still somehow a novelty for a character to have female genitalia. Even if it were treated as a non-issue and the Doctor would go on being the Doctor, there's still the air of "look look it's a girl now! Isn't that interesting?! Wink wink, nudge nudge!" that kind of grosses me out.

Actually, this is how I feel too. I don't watch it and I'm not interested in it, but I don't think it's a good idea. I understand people wanting more well-played female characters in the media, I wish there were more of them, but I don't think this would be a good way to do it.

That is probably the big reason I am unsure I want to see them do it either - I have this abiding distrust of how writers for shows will handle things. It's not just DW either, but other shows as well.
