You know what, I hate the argument that cause the Doctor is some advanced space alien species he is clearly ~*~so above~*~ gender and sex. Not only does it end up being kind of offensive with how it seems to imply that if we were just advanced enough we wouldn't care about sex and gender but... there is nothing in doctor who verse, and correct me if i am wrong, that implies time lords are genderless. Nothing. Not even a throw away line of 'oh, you humans and your quaint notions of gender'.

And the character who said anything similar to that anywhere in Whoniverse was Jack, a human from an advanced future culture, and he wasn't talking about gender but sexual orientation (and how we classify them and label them).

That's kind of how I feel about it -- that if we were really advanced it wouldn't be such a big fucking deal that has to influence everything. But I get that a lot of people don't.

It's kind of like religion that way. Very important to a lot of people, incomprehensible to me. (Gender has the advantage of originally being based on a quantifiable biological distinction, but on the other hand I can easily think of some real positive social impacts of religions, not so much for gender.)

Yeah, no. Religion is something you choose, gender is something you are. Completey different.

Did you just imply that you're more advanced than the rest of society because you don't care about religion and gender?

Wow.

ayrt

I didn't intend to. There are things I just don't get, that no matter how hard I try the closest I can come is understanding that they're important to other people, and when I imagine a more advanced society, I imagine it without these things which make no sense to me. There are many people I see as more enlightened than I am who feel religion or gender identity is very important, so clearly there is something there I'm not getting, but understanding that doesn't make me get it. Does that make sense?
