Re: Youtube Comments to Require a Googleplus account

On the one hand I can see where you are coming from on the other hand, when most of those "free thoughts" consists of, "Die, bitch" "Why don't you kill yourself" because people can just leave anon messages without having to own up to them, I can see why the runners of these sites would be tightening the screws. Especially when I believe we are going to start seeing lawsuits by people who have been bullied on these sites. People are going start suing social sites like youtube, reddit and tumblr with the idea that those places should police their members better. So, cut it off before the lawyers can get their grubby hands in the pie.

And what do you think this is, except the lawyers and the marketers getting their grubby hands in the pie?

Those might be the majority of anon posters in fandom spaces but they aren't the only reasons that people want to go anon on the web.

A law professor (or anyone) who goes anon to post opinions that dissent with his country's official positions and pokes legal and logical holes in the government stances, for instance, might want to go anon. Bloggers, political and otherwise, might need to go anon, especially in countries where Freedom of Speech is Not a Thing.

(And before you ask, both of those things have come up, both within the U.S. and outside of it.)

Those sites might get sued for bullying issues but they might also get sued for willfully outing people who need the protection of anonymity.
