"Ugly" is a strong word for someone who takes care of herself, is in shape, and has a face without any shocking characteristics?
So, those things automatically make you not ugly despite the fact the attractiveness- I'm not even talking beauty, just plain ol' okayness- is extremely subjective.
Ugly is not a strong word for someone you don't find physically appealing, no matter their hygiene, size, shape, health or physical characteristics. Ugly may very well be the right word if that person finds the other extremely unattractive.
This isn't just semantics, this is people telling people what they should be not be deeming unattractive because the person they deemed unattractive "takes care of themselves" and can therefore not be ugly by anyone's standards.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)Seriously, unattractive does not equal ugly. Unattractive is literally "not attractive". It implies no more than that. Ugly is going beyond that all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum.

My issues is with assertion that physically fit people who take care of themselves and who don't have any shocking features can not and should not be considered ugly, based on anon's comment and comments of others in this thread.
Physically fit people who take care of themselves CAN be considered ugly- appropriately, no less- and I think it's ridiculous to say otherwise.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)With Megan Fox, I think a lot of people think it's "safe" to call her ugly, because she's had plastic surgery and they have decided for whatever reason she is low-class, trashy, or a slut (which are all terrible things to call someone too, I hope you'd agree). It's a way to be mean and it's also an indirect way to reinforce women's self-esteem problems, because a lot of average everyday girls will hear someone like their dad or brothers or coworkers or classmates ragging on a celebrity like her and calling her ugly, and the very natural and logical conclusion a lot of girls come to is, "if that's what they say about a celebrity like her, how much of a gross ugly pig must they think I am?" It's insidious.
