I think 9 out of 10 is a bit high, maybe more like 5 out of 10. I used to post here regularly. I'd message people who I thought were fun, or those who always say "message me! I'll be your friend!" and never really got any replies beyond the first "hello". I think it's harder than people think to make friends, and I also think no matter how hard one tries that sometimes it just doesn't *click*.

It's nice that it's apparently easy for you to make friends, but it's just not that way for everyone.

to be fair, though, that exact same sort of thing happens in real life too. you can meet someone and have a conversation or two with them and then it never goes anywhere beyond that for whatever reason. i think it's a bit ridiculous to expect to become friends with everyone you talk to, because like you said, sometimes things just don't always click and it isn't necessarily anyone's fault.

Of course it's not anyone's fault, and of course you can't expect to become friends with everyone you ever talk to. But that's exactly why making fandom friends is so difficult, and why OP is wrong and exaggerating. OP is basically saying that you *can* make friends with anyone and the only reason one wouldn't have friends is if they're a lurker. And that's dumb.
