I post everything both places. And I'm very happy to get kudos or reviews or even just be able to look at reader statistics and see that people are paying attention.

Same.

(Though I have to admit that it drives me nuts to see a fic get a ton of hits but no reviews, because then I wonder "Did they read to the end, or did they get bored part of the way in and just click away?" :p )

Yeah, there is that. I mostly watch stats for my two multiparters though, so if you've gotten to the latest chapter, chances are you liked the earlier ones as well. There is always a pretty big drop-off from the first chap to the second but that's okay. I check out a lot of fic only to decide within the first couple of paragraphs that it's not for me.

*nods* Yeah I have always assumed (at least on FF.net) the "lots of hits on ch 1" is because, unless you explicitly edit the URL to go to a later chapter (or go to a new chapter via email) clicking the story link always takes you to ch 1.

Yeah, that definitely would have an effect, plus anyone who hasn't seen the fic before since it just popped up to the top of the list with an update. So as long as the middle chapters get a bunch of new hits, I'm pretty happy.

heh, I wish someday they'd allow one to filter hits by "day of month" as well. I only have 40 or so stories on FFnet, but when I see a sudden spike if it's later in the month it's a pain to select each story in turn to see if it's the one getting the hits that day. (This is why I usually only check hits near the beginning of the month, because it's easier to see what's getting the traffic.)
