The wank about Hanji from SNK was unbelievable tho

Basically the author went "You're asking about Hanji's gender? If it's that hard for you to tell I guess I won't even confirm it now lol" and somehow everybody took that to mean Hanji is trans/genderqueer/etc and proceeded to throw a shitfit whenever anyone in fandom referred to her with female pronouns.

Jesus christ what's the point of celebrating "representation" when there's no proof of it being canon whatsoever

Yeah, they can have all the headcanons they like, but going around attacking people for using the "wrong" pronouns for a character they (mistakenly) believe to be trans is just stupid.

I like it when people bust out the argument about gendered pronouns, because it's a clear sign that they're just parroting shit they read elsewhere without actually knowing what they're talking about, and therefore I can hit the back button right away.

And didn't Isayama later on confirm that Hanji is in fact female anyway? Are people still really having this fight?

He did confirmed it. Just that took the question in a badly way (in a "lol you cannot draw women without them looking as men!" way).

And as a result of that mess I ended up with the headcanon that she's a trans woman. Not to make a statement or anything (I haven't even shared it un-anon), the thought just stuck itself there.

Reminds me of the Soul Eater wank. I don't think Krona's gender was ever confirmed one way or the other, but it was kind of obvious Krona was female.
