Re: Supernatural Confessions
But when I was thirteen my family went to California over winter break. On the return trip home (to Texas) she wanted to see the Marfa lights but because it was a tight schedule to be back before school she had to drive through the night and stop off around 2 am.
Sometime around one in the morning we stopped at a gas station and I bought a gallon jug of water. In the car after filling my and my mother's cups I accidentally lost the lid and couldn't find it so after I put my glasses in the glove compartment I just kept the jug in the nest of my crossed legs and drifted off to sleep.
I have no idea how long I slept but I was awoken by my mother flailing and smacking her arm into me, the combination of her gestures and my violent startling knocked over the jug of water. She started shout-whispering to me to look out the window. I mostly ignored her trying to clean up the water but she was frantic telling me that a light had been following us, keeping perfect pace with the car's driver side window no matter how many times she slowed or sped up for the past fifteen miles or so.
I fumbled for my glasses and peered through her window and saw... the moon reflecting off of a set of railroad tracks.
I scheduled her an appointment with an optometrist the day after we got home.
I have several fond childhood memories of my mother taking us on weekend roadtrips to see some haunted house or ghostly lights or the other. Mostly at my mother's expense. :)
