(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 03:21 am (UTC)(link)Well, I know it's considered a very taboo opinion, but I *don't* want them. I'm female, and I actively prefer shows/movies with an all-male or mostly-male cast. I don't give a crap about the Bechdel Test.
I'm not self-loathing and I don't think women are "icky", nor am I hardcore fan of m/m slash. I'm just sort of tomboyish in my entertainment preferences, I guess. I relate to male characters. I find them entertaining. I do not relate to the majority of female characters and I do not find them entertaining.
I just *completely* cannot relate to a statement like "This shows needs some strong, fierce, kick-ass, hilarious, sassy women!" Um, no, it doesn't.
Also, I'm a straight woman, and I enjoy looking at men, even if they're not conventionally handsome. A cast full of women is not a draw, to me.
My fave female TV character is Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine, and she's entertaining because she's selfish, hostile, and crazy: hardly a shining example of a heroic or admirable female role-model for girls to look up to and emulate.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 04:03 am (UTC)(link)But I also want more females liek the one you describe here: people who don't have to be good role models or feminine or whatever, but can just be whoever they are without having to fit a certain preordained role as determined by some kind of ad executive who lives in the fucking 1950s.
Basically, <3 you and your comment because I see where you'd coming from and I think we all sort of agree in this thread even with all the arguments!
More girls would be great, but only if they're real characters.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 04:19 am (UTC)(link)Would it be so bad to support some variety for those who would like something other then cast after cast of men? Or because you don't want them those of us who do can't have them?
What is even the point of your comment. You have everything, what you want is on TV EVERYWHERE.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)(This is why, in some ways, I find Fluttershy to be a nigh-revolutionary character -- she's openly acknowledged to be shy, fragile, and cowardly, and yet she's still acknowledged as a worthy and valued character. You hardly see this in any other media: most female characters with any sort of fragility or gentleness are decried as 'weak' or 'useless').
