I find the whole cannibalism and killing thing much more unattractive than any actor involved.

Which is saying something, but still. I'm less concerned about their looks than the fact that I don't want to watch something like that.

I find it disgusting. I don't know how people watch shows where cannibals are (as far as I can tell from never watching this!!) heroes or at least semi-heroes.

I don't care if that sounds judgmental. We don't like these people in real life. Why are they cool if fictional? There's still killing and eating people, for pity's sake.

Hannibal is not supposed to be a hero or even a semi-hero in the show. He is despicable and irredeemable pretty much in all of his actions. That does not, however, keep some fans from trying to redeem him and seeing him as "not so bad". He is evil, and the show does not shy away from demonstrating that. I like him in an "OMG he is so evil, how is he doing this? I am cringing while watching him do this!" way.

Ah, thanks for explaining! I hate shows where I have to cringe all the time, so I still won't be watching this.

It's definitely not a show that is to everyone's taste, especially since it's pretty bloody most of the time. But there's nothing heroic whatsoever about Hannibal.

In fact, the major appeal of the show, for me, is the marvellously done dramatic irony. The viewers know exactly what a monster he truly is while the other characters don't a have a clue.

I can understand it not being for you. I almost gave up in one of the episodes because I was cringing so much at how evil Hannibal was being. (Apparently I can live with cannibalism, but there are other things that cross the line into uncomfortability even more than that for me? IDEK.)

Hannibal isn't a hero or an anti-hero. He is the villain. The actor portraying him here has even said that he is playing Hannibal as Lucifer. I know there are people trying to make a prince out of Hannibal but they are a fraction of a fraction of the fandom. The majority know that Hannibal is evil. And we like him because he is such a great evil villain. (Still we want the hero of the story, Will, to catch Hannibal in the end. Especially with how the first season ended.)

You only like fictional characters that would be decent and likable people irl?

What you like must be really, really boring.

I don't care if that sounds judgmental. (okay, wasn't actually trying to be a dick, but since you said it first it seemed like an appropriate zing lol)

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"zing lol"

Are you 11?

Or 66.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and to answer you seriously: fuck you. Yes, I only like characters who are perfect and likeable and good.

Or, you know, at least not murdering cannibals.

da

My mom's the same way.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
So... you are boring.

(c'mon, you knock "zing" but answer with the more eloquent and mature "fuck you"? Troooooll)

ps: your tastes are still mayonnaise as fuck lol

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
MMMMM...mayonnaise.

So you tell me I must hate interesting characters because I don't like cannibal murderers, and I'M the troll? Oh hell yeah.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, I don't watch Hannibal myself because I didn't think it was good. It's that you judge other people for watching and enjoying it, and that you are incapable of liking characters unless they are heroic Apollos.

and the fact that my first comment was meant very light and joking and you immediately proceeded into the "fuck yous".

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see anything lighthearted about your comment. You didn't even just say I am judgmental for being disgusted by a show about cannibals being popular. (Okay, if you just thought that I'd still disagree.)

And yes, I'm having a crappy day and I'm angry in general, not so much at you. I still think you're a troll, though. I don't usually tell people to fuck themselves, though, so I guess I'm sorry for that. A little bit.

LOL ZING

honestly, not knowing "there" from "they're" is far more unnattractive.

Re: /

There's = there is. There is still killing and eating people in the show.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-14 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not nearly as unattractive as thinking the poster made a there/they're mistake when they didn't, though.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really agree tbh. Sometimes villains are heroes (or anti heroes) is fun. They do things that we would never do. That doesn't mean we'd support those actions irl. But I can definitely see how a character like Hannibal could be portrayed as a anti hero in another media. We've all had moments when we get annoyed at people who are rude or have bad manners. His actions are the very very extreme of that annoyance.

Re: /

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal is not a hero or anti-hero; he's very much the villain in the story. This is not Dexter.

As for your final... let's call it, "question", it's not unusual for people to project their fears, angers and anxieties on to an immoral or amoral story, in order to explore and exorcise their own personal "dark places", from a safe and controlled distance. And everybody has these sort of less than pleasant thoughts and frames of mind; even you. So that was not as judgemental as it was uninformed.

Cannibalism and brain/flesh-eating zombies squick me out so I can partly relate.
