I think there are some actors/characters out there that aren't necessarily attractive if you look at their mugshot. But combining their expressions, how they move, how they speak, how they behave and what they do... sexiness is not 100% about the face. In the case of this guy, I agree he's not very pretty, but he's so suave in the show it's hard not to think of him as being handsome, at least for me.

Which works pretty well for me considering who he is in the show, it's like creepy inner ugliness showing through to his face

NGL tho,watching people fangirl over Hannibal's hotness creeps me out heavily, but they can have their fun. I'll just blacklist that show...and his face

This! I love that the actor is creepy looking. I'm tired of so many shows casting young, handsome people as villains (e.g. that new Dracula show).

Give me unsettling creepers any day!

I find the whole cannibalism and killing thing much more unattractive than any actor involved.

Which is saying something, but still. I'm less concerned about their looks than the fact that I don't want to watch something like that.

I find it disgusting. I don't know how people watch shows where cannibals are (as far as I can tell from never watching this!!) heroes or at least semi-heroes.

I don't care if that sounds judgmental. We don't like these people in real life. Why are they cool if fictional? There's still killing and eating people, for pity's sake.

Hannibal is not supposed to be a hero or even a semi-hero in the show. He is despicable and irredeemable pretty much in all of his actions. That does not, however, keep some fans from trying to redeem him and seeing him as "not so bad". He is evil, and the show does not shy away from demonstrating that. I like him in an "OMG he is so evil, how is he doing this? I am cringing while watching him do this!" way.

Hannibal isn't a hero or an anti-hero. He is the villain. The actor portraying him here has even said that he is playing Hannibal as Lucifer. I know there are people trying to make a prince out of Hannibal but they are a fraction of a fraction of the fandom. The majority know that Hannibal is evil. And we like him because he is such a great evil villain. (Still we want the hero of the story, Will, to catch Hannibal in the end. Especially with how the first season ended.)

Maybe because not everyone judges attractiveness solely on physical features. Or maybe because not everyone has the same tastes so someone you or I might find ugly others find attractive. Wacky, I know.

It really baffles me how much hate Hannibal gets for his looks considering the type of ugly-ass actors who get fangirled over in fandom (*cough*Sherlock and Doctor Who*cough*).

Are ugly people only hot if they're British?

I tend to prefer non-generic faces and never thought he was ugly, but I'll admit I was kind of baffled by the hype until I started watching the show and staring at him for hours. Now he's like 50% of my tumblr posts, lol. Love the accent, love the ridiculous cheekbones and upper lip, just the whole deal, and he's so talented that that alone would have gotten me interested even if I'd never come to find him really attractive. The whole acquired taste thing probably won't happen for you if you can barely watch because of him, though. They style him in so many different ways (he has some scenes with his therapist where he's absolutely corpsey-looking and it's always so startling to me) that if none of them are working for you, I can see how it would be hard to watch. It's so brilliant and so worthwhile as a show, though. You could just stare at Will as much as possible, nobody feels the need to try to explain his face, lolol.

He's not conventionally handsome, but I can clearly see that he is visually striking, and that works for some people. Sexy-ugly is a thing, you know.

To me he will always Le Chiffre and I thought that character was pretty unattractive. Every once in a while I'll see a pic of the actor that flatters him a certain way, but overall I don't get the appeal either.

I haven't watched more than a few episodes of Hannibal, but the reason I watched any of it at all is because I saw Mads Mikkelson so much on Tumblr and thought he was super attractive. I just love how unusual and striking his face is. Even though I haven't become a Hannibal fan, I love looking at him. But I guess the weirdness that attracted me to him could just as easily repel someone else...

I find him attractive in a weird/unique sort of way. But that's a really unflattering picture of him. He looks like a propped up corpse there.
