Agents of SHIELD. Spoilers

[personal profile] iceyred 2013-11-14 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm watching the latest episode right now and Leo, Grant, and Jemma are rocking my world. May is a master of the art of silent snark, and Coulson is still awesome. The episodes are getting better (the one where Jemma got infected was the best) and the fanfic is bringing me joy.

But then there's Skye. Who is so obnoxious, self-centered, and self-righteous that I want to ragequit.

What do y'all think?

Are they still treating Skye as the female lead when she's the least interesting character there?

Nothing against the actress but the show would be so much tighter without her. I mean even the thing with Jemma getting infected ended up devolving into YOU ARE SICK AND SKYE IS CRYING and then YOU ARE BETTER! THIS PLEASES SKYE. SKYE HUGS FOR EVERYONE.

They are. Like, Coulson is dealing with two members of his team being on a dangerous mission in a foreign country and one of those guys isn't combat ready. But let's have a bunch of scenes about Skye and her tragic, angsty past, and NEED FOR ANSWERS U GUISE!

I'm seriously wondering if Whedon is fucking her or something and wrote her in hastily. The guy is usually decent at female characters and this is really weird for him.

I hope not. :( Wikipedia is telling me he's married. Everybody has off-moments. Hopefully, this is just his.

The actress isn't really the problem. It's the writing and the direction that suck.

I think I want Skye and Ward to both DIAF. Skye is annoying, and quite frankly it doesn't make any sense for her to be on the show. Why is SHIELD continuing to put up with her even though she's repeatedly demonstrated that she is not suited to that line of work and can't be trusted? As for Ward, he's so fucking boring he makes Bella Swan look like a fascinating, multi-dimensional character. It's like the writers intentionally went out of their way to create the most bland, generic leading man possible.

Also, I'm starting to get sick of unsubtle "hints" at Coulson being an LMD. The entire fandom's already figured it out, just give us the goddamn reveal so we can finally have our justification for why AoS!Coulson is so OOC in comparison to movie!Coulson.

On the bright side, my love of FitzSimmons and May increases with each episode.

Think Terminator but not universally evil. Some are just puppets. But often, they have autonomous programming. Usually based off the brain patterns of some important figure, alive or deceased.

Though every so often the existential crisis of their existence if they become aware of their true nature (though many are popped non-sentient or with full awareness of themselves) can trigger... unpleasentries.

Ward showed a sliver of personality in the Jemma episode. And he showed a teeny tiny bit more in this one. Not much, though. But a little.

You're right about Skye. She contributes nothing to the team or to the plot.

I'll admit a big part of me watching is just so when it's finally revealed, I can re link that book mark where I called it on day one and go "woooo! Called it!"

I don't dislike Skye anymore tbh. Or Ward. IMO they're the least interesting characters in the show, but they're both growing (albeit a bit slowly), and I don't mind them like the rest of fandom does. *shrugs* They have their moments.

Skye is a gender-swapped Wesley Crusher. First and second season Wesley by the writing team that got McFadden fired for trying to talk out scripted relationships that made no sense.

That's an insult to Wesley Crusher, because it took at least a few episodes for Wesley Crusher to worm his way into the bridge crew.
