I find my closest friends are the types who can easily transition between the two types of discussions. One of my best friends & I mostly talk about "real shit", like what's going on in our lives, the little problems and annoyances we have, and then we can transition into discussing films, TV or fanfiction. I thought I was the geekier one in the friendship but recently she's gotten really into slash fanfiction, which somewhat surprised me, but I'm happy to discuss it with her, even though I no longer read fanfiction much.
