Only one I can think of that really significantly impacted my life is my art teacher who also ran the tiny private academy I attended during my teens. And that was because not only was he an awesome teacher who taught me more about design and color theory and observing-to-draw and such in one semester than I'd learned in any other art classes to this day, and not only did he cover things like costume design and performance art and installations, but he is, like me, a rabbit person.

In fact we've stayed on as friends after I got too old to attend the academy, and I adopted several rabbits from the shelter he ran, and he's helped out with any number of bunny health crises. (Rabbit wheezing on Friday and you can't get to the vet until Monday? Let me come over and show you how to use a nebulizer, and make an attachment for it that will fit your rabbit!)

So we still communicate regularly, and the student/teacher dynamic is entirely gone at this point, though it was never quite there to begin with because his classes were so laid-back, and we were encouraged to call him by his first name. He went through a rough time recently which culminated in divorce, and actually has called me in tears a couple of times. I wound up having to kind of talk him down, and it was only after the fact I went "...Whoa, I'm calming down and giving life advice to one of my TEACHERS..." But he'd become more than a teacher, a genuine friend. Brilliant, fantastic guy all around, and I am hoping everything falls into line for him quickly.

That is so awesome! I am glad you found someone to share your interests with. And how awesome is it that he runs a RABBIT SHELTER? Cutest shelter ever!

Yep, I went and helped him and his husband out a few times, taking care of the pretty typical stuff while they did the complicated stuff with the special needs buns who needed regular physical therapy and medications. And of course just playing with them. I would've adopted them all if I could, but then I'd basically be running a shelter myself. ;) (Not that I'm not, with my current four...)
