/a/ is kind of like junk food to me. Fun in small bits, but sucks if it's the majority of your fandom intake. Also helps if you know what to avoid.

It sucks for discussion, though. But that's kind of a given because anime fandom tends to suck for discussion.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
/a/ is shit, but it's the best place to discuss anime. Where else would you go? MAL? ANN? The cancerous shithole that is Tumblr? Reddit? Please.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said that the other options were any good either. Anime fandom sucks for discussion period. Animesuki was kind of good at one point but those days are gone.

I mean, you sometimes get a glimmer of a good discussion on /a/ but it goes to shit fast.

Agreed.

Best board culture, and best place on the web to actually discuss anime.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The layout sucks.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you using the default layout?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know there was any other kind.

I mostly hang around on /vp/, it's great for up to date info

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
/a/ was good until 2008.

I still go to /m/ sometimes, though they're getting just as bad.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just mysoginist? I'm pretty sure most of 4chan hates everyone equally.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
They hate everyone, but not at all equally. A lot of boards are super, super misogynist. And racist.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Try even vaguely implying you're a girl on some boards.

Go on.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand. We are all little girls on /a/.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would I? Also most people that know me (by my art) there know I am a girl and don't care.

I'm also seen anyone that says "I am___" reamed because there are still people on 4chan that believe in anonymity and enforce it. They're also really good at finding your insecurities and exploiting them.

You just have to approach 4chan thinking everyone is trolling and no one means what they say and you'll be better for it. Even if they do mean it... faceless person on the internet. Who cares.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I go on /a/ once in a blue moon, but mostly I just discuss stuff with my friends. That's generally enough discussion for me. I used to hang out on /co/ more frequently when I read more American comics, and find the general level of discussion on /a/ much less interesting, which was disappointing to me when I got back into manga and anime.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about /a/ and /co/. I secretly love it when /co/ manages to have an offtopic thread about an anime/manga, they're so much more fun and laid back than /a/, it's a much more enjoyable place to discuss things you like.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Then
>>>/co/

And never come back.

Yeah, I spent a lot more time on 4chan when I was into the stuff on /co/. Maybe people are younger on average on /a/? Maybe anime fans are just more annoying? Who knows.

Decided to check it out again to discuss Free!

It was hilarious and disgusting at the same time.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Free! threads are a special type of awful. They've developed this incredible paranoia about people from tumblr 'invading' (even though they're basically two sides of the same crazy, delusional coin) and as a result they've developed some really weird priorities about what's acceptable behaviour and start screaming and shitflinging about the stupidest shit all the god damn time.

Did use just use a fucking elipsis? Get the fuck back to tumblr you disgusting landwhale.

Mentioning two characters in the same sentence? Woah man stop that shippingfaggotry right now you fucking fujoshit scum.

But it's perfectly fine if you start going on about how much you want to use Makoto's semen as deodorant or have Rin bite your dick off with his shark teeth.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I really love how differently Free! is treated there when it's basically K-On! but with guys and swimming.

I mean /a/ still hates K-On! but it's a different kind of hate.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like a Tumblcunt. /a/ has its own culture, and if you don't want to fit in, then fuck off, there are plenty of places on the Internet to discuss anime.

I got to /co/ sometimes. I just get out of the threads when they turn shitty. I don't go to /a/ often because I'm not watching much anime these days.

I kind of miss liking 4chan, it was my introduction to fandom, and as a result I've never gotten used to those people who take everything really seriously. Honestly, though, I actually enjoy some of Tumblr's anime tags because almost everything seems so tongue-in-cheek.
