Speaking as a person who doesn't have English as their native language, I appreciate it when people correct me if I make mistakes (as long as it's done in a nice manner) To be honest, I think it's quite ridiculous that you're not "allowed" to correct other people when they make mistakes, because how else will they learn?

Of course, everyone is different about things like this, and with this person being a BNF, you risk getting jumped on by that person's fans.

This. It's not rude to help people improve their grammar.

As a non-native speaker myself I had rather people point out my mistakes to me, than laugh at me behind my back.

Same here. I always look for ways to improve my grammar (for my native language and for English).
