generally speaking, video games don't have the same sort of fandoms that other things like books and tv shows and such have. a lot of comparatively popular video games don't have active, fanwork-producing (meaning fic, art, fanmixes, etc) fandoms as their comparable tv show/movie/book equivalent.
look at the difference in the number of fics on AO3.
i didn't include final fantasy because i haven't played the games and i'm not aware of the fandom enough to include it. though now i can see it's one of the top 5 in the AO3 categories.
