I was under the impression that gypsy was an offensive exonym...and on that note I know damn near nothing about that culture, but I do know reality TV, and reality TV is not realistic. It plays up the worst, most offensive aspects of a group or event to garner ratings.

I'd take my information from more reputable sources than television, for better or worse, OP.
