Could you go off their hair? The hair seems reasonably different.

I'd go with hair and facial hair. I know Charlie Day's character keeps facial hair most of the time. And the middle one keeps his hair slicked back.

Like noodles said. Or maybe try and find some sort of body recognition? Like one has a bigger beard, one is thinner, one is shorter.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. I have this problem with pretty much every show I watch.

But Charlie Day's voice is completely different.

Mac usually has his hair slicked back. Charlie and Dennis' hair is similar, but Charlie usually has a beard.

Just remember: Mac is the closet gay, super religious one, Dennis is the psycho sexist womanizer, Charlie is the dumb, stalker one who sings.

Oh god me too. I have this issue with so many shows and movies. Most recently with Pacfic Rim - I had such problems telling Raleigh apart from both the australians, until I at least figured out that the dad one had a beard. It's extremely embarrassing.
Happens in real life too. I teach adults, and it's always kind of mortifying having to ask them to stick to a seating plan like in primary school, but if they don't I will not be able to learn their names in one semester.

All three of them look rather bland to me. Not sure how you could be expected to tell them apart.

I'd probably have trouble too.
I have a really hard time telling How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement apart because all the characters look the same to me -_o doesn't help that two local channels are almost always playing one or the other and I get so very very confused.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, I have this too. Makes life hard.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'd have a problem as well and I'm the least faceblind person in my circle of friends, so it's okay, OP. Nothing to be embarrassed about. All I see is three nearly-identical guys and a girl, so...

I started watching this show on hulu through headphones, since i was at work. I found their voices different enough to be able to recognize, but once i started watching it, I had no idea because I couldn't pin the faces down.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(Charlie's voice is pretty recognizable imo)

All you have to know is that Dee is the superior character.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried watching this show because a couple of my friends are obsessed with it. Not only did I not find it funny, but I honestly could not tell the men apart, even when I watch the show in HQ. It got to the point that even my "all white people look the same to me" Asian friend was better at differentiating them than I (a white chick who doesn't usually have problems differentiating faces) was.

You're not alone, OP.

In addition to the hair and Charlie's beard, Dennis almost always wears button up shirts with the sleeves folded up, and Mac goes for tight t shirts, often with the sleeves cut off. Charlie wears t's too, but his aren't as tight.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you on the bad facial recognition thing. I HATE IT. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I have a similar problem OP. The only way I ended up being able to differentiate Mac from the other two is when he gained a lot of weight.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I have that too, it makes for really awkward social situations. and yeah, sometimes TV viewing is harder as well. What's weird is that the characters don't even have to look that much alike, sometimes one random thing will throw me off. (Fortunately it's not that bad IRL. For the most part.)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
You might have Prosopagnosia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosopagnosia).

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the exact same way, and I watch Game of Thrones. Hundreds of characters and they all. look. the same. It drives me nuts. (It's not just on tv, either; my mother cut her hair once and I couldn't recognize her for about 2 months until it grew back out some.)

One thing for tv and movies that helps me is to watch it once, read a reliable, thorough recap, then watch it again with a recap and character list open on a laptop/tablet next to me. It's a lot of work just to enjoy something though...

They actually look pretty different to me

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
But I know that having even a mild form of prosopagnosia can be very frustrating. I don't watch the show, so I don't know what other characteristics you can focus on. How about their hair color and style? If you can't tell their voices apart, do they have different styles of speech? Do they have any distinct mannerisms?

I have very good facial recognition and honestly even I can't tell them apart.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You described me and Pacific Rim.
Granted at least the American sounded different

But goddamn I can not tell them apart

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
are you retarded? they look completely different...i have never seen the show and i could differentiate between them after a half-second glance at that picture.
