That he admires her is another awesome thing. The characters in this show LIKE each other. We have characters who are likeable, relate-able people! They make mistakes, they get hurt (best sisterly relationship since MLP:FIM), but they still try to be good!

Irving is great too. Like, if someone told me about a rampaging headless guy with some machine guns, I'd be skeptical too.

Crane's voicemail was lulzy. He doesn't totally get the modern world, but he's figuring it out in hilarious ways.

Yes! I very much like these people, and they seem *real* (irony, i know) in a lot more ways than so many other characters out there.

His voicemail was sheer perfection. I loved his pitch-perfect exasperation and how it was basically a very proper little letter, only spoken instead of written. Perfection.

It doesn't hurt one bit that Orlando Jones is *one of us*. He's so adorable. I can't wait for (spoiler about him) to happen later in the season!!

(Don't know if you're phobic or not, won't spoil if you don't want.)

I'm convinced he knows more about the monsters et al that he's letting on :)

Hee. Probably.

Same here. Not sure what side he is on, or what his agenda is, but I am sure he knows more about what is going.

I think the voicemail beat out his conversation with the customer service lady as my favorite 'Ichabod learns new things' example.

Orlando Jones is so cute. His tumblr makes me squee. I'mma skip the spoiler. I want to be surprised. But we can talk about it when it happens! I do know that the girl from The Hunger Games is going to play his daughter. She is classy and talented and I look forward to her debut episode.

Hrmmmmmmm....which ep was Customer Service lady? Why don't i remember that?

YES! His daughter (that was the spoiler). That's going to be so damn fun. I've seen some on-set photos of them goofing around.

I'm expecting glorious chemistry. And another interesting female character. And a strong Daddy/Daughter relationship (which I love).

I think customer service lady was the second or third episode. The scene started with Ichabod recapping his romance and past with Katrina, then it turned out he was stuck in the car, managed to dial customer service support, and ended up telling the lady his life story. It was so moving that she cried and I laughed myself sick.

OH! Yes, the OnStar-type lady, yes. That was priceless. That was *perfect*.

I think that was the scene that marked the moment that I decided I would stick with the show until the very end.

All my mother knows of the show is what I've told her, which is mostly about the "Ichabod copes with 2013" stuff because that's my favorite part. So she knows about the Onstar conversation and I had her watch the baseball scene, and that's about it. Even so, I told her that Ichabod left Abbie a voicemail and her face immediately lit up because she knew this was going to be hilarious.

Heee!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The voicemail was the best!

I'm still in awe, though, of his ability to accidentally get into some kind of porn video chat thing just by mashing on a laptop keyboard. I realize it was just meant as a joke, but it made me wonder what was in Abbie's browser history...

The porn website came from the same magical hammerspace as the Middle English. Middle English in Shakespeare's time. Computers that don't work like computers. Flaily logicless monster invasion. There are so many nit picky little reasons I could hate this show, but the characters are so endearing I don't care.

This show is so enjoyable provided you suspend your disbelief about practically everything. Normally, that would bug me, but I can't deny that I am highly entertained anyway watching this show.

Hey, at least he got the primary cryptographic algorithm in use at the time, although it wasn't popularly known as the Vigenere in his time. (Don't tell him it's now trivially breakable.)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
This is me. I was raging to an empty room during the Middle English episode, but I've learned to just take a deep breath, lock the door on that part of my brain, and bask in the adorableness of the characters.

Same here. The Middle English debacle had me flailing and ranting, but after I got that out of my system it was easy enough to block out caring about realism again because Abby and Jenny and Ichabod and all are the best. Usually I care a great deal about these things, so Sleepy Hollow must be doing something very right that it takes something as egregious as dead languages in the wrong century to make me start flailing.

When I was in middle school there was rumor that if you went to www.whitehouse.com instead of www.whitehouse.gov it would take you to a porn site. I assumed that Ichabod googled something innocent and wound up clicking on something like that.

Not sure how looking for old Revolutionary War documents could lead one to porn, but stranger things have happened.

A number of years ago a friend of mine, just starting out on the internet went looking for stuff and found...well let's just say it was a porn site and not typical porn at that. It scared him off the net for a few years and is still something we joke about. So yeah, I could see that happening.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
I assumed it was a department computer, not necessarily Abbie's. Which still means someone has been mucking about on company time, but probably not our leads.

I was totally expecting Ichabod to ask the woman on the website to help him with the computer, though.

That would have been hilarious.

One thing I love about Crane and his interactions with the modern world are the things he gets and the things he does not. There is some logic behind it. If he there is/was an equivalent in his time he gets it. If there is/was not he struggles a bit. Cars - horseless carriages that go really fast. Lights - a different version of candles. Stoves - much fancier versions of what he saw his is own time. Modern guns - very nice and great that you can shoot it more than once. However his voice not only traveling through the ether but being recorded for playback at a later time? That he can't because in his time they only beginning to understand the uses for electricity and the fact it could be used for anything more than simple drawing room tricks.

Well, that and paying for water and not willing paying a tax of almost 10%.
