People shouldn't treat you like that, especially since you are fine with other people liking what they like - that's a really good attitude to have.

But maybe they are mistaking you for some of the people in this thread - you know, putting others down for liking what they like in fandom or thinking that how they enjoy fictional characters is so much better. I'm not actually in either The Hobbit or Sherlock fandoms, so I can't say it affects me much either way, but those attitudes bother me.
