It would depend on the fic, I would think. Short fluff piece about Twilight Sparkle going to Canterlot to find a magic apple to solve world hunger? She would meet the Princess.

Long epic that delves deep into the world and history of the ponies, putting a darker spin on the series, and explaining their mythology amidst the backdrop of a horrendous civil war that has turned the tribes against each other and threatens to wipe out the population? O hay thar, Goddess.

I read a fic like that, it was a Warhammer 40K crossover where Celestia was the God-Emperor of Mankind.

IIRC, she was supposed to be "Queen" Celestia, but it was changed to "Princess" because Queens are given a bad rap thanks to Disney.

I do agree with you though. She seems like a very likeable and benevolent ruler. We've seen her need help from Twilight and her friends on numerous occasions so she's not omnipotent. She's certainly powerful, but she's not without faults.

I'm surprised at you. Most fandoms have at least one dark side, but I know you have a special contempt for furries, and the MLP fandom provides a jumping-off point for a lot of the same negative traits that make annoying assholes want to be furries (special snowflake syndrome, childish misanthropy, getting way too wrapped up in fantasies, and so on.) Do you not hate Bronies?

Bronies don't count. They are wonderful people that just like the best show ever.

She is like the most useless character

every time there is a dangerous task she sends someone else to take care of it and when it is time to fight she is easily taken out.

That's kind of her job. She's an administrator.

Well, she's got to test the strength of Twilight and her friends' bond somehow. Fighting off threatening monsters she could take out herself seems a likely way to do it, rite?

Celestia a kind and fair ruler? Next you'll be telling me that Sweetie Belle's family loves her, Pinkie Pie isn't actively malicious, Twilight Sparkle and Spike like and respect one another, and that Applejack is a main character.

I agree that it seems excessive when fic-writers portray Celestia as a goddess, though I've found some fics where they've gone for this approach while still recognising she is fallible and a pony. The instinctive deference, OTOH, I can't stand. It doesn't look good, not even for Celestia herself who comes across ('Best Night Ever' comes to mind) as a lady who'd quite like to do normal things some times.

One could argue, however, that her connection to the sun is a legitimate reason to think she and Luna ''are'' something out of the ordinary rather than ponies who - through birth or otherwise - came to rule Equestria. Perhaps their longevity, too, although their jobs have (supposedly) been done by unicorns in the past.

Mind you if that's the case, then surely ponies like Cadence and Twilight whose talents lie in abstract concepts (if magic=friendship) would also be deified. Time may tell if this has any basis in canon.

So, yes, I agree with you but think there might be something to the general idea of Celestia being a goddess.

I find it interesting. Honestly, fic like that is one of the things I miss most about being involved in the MLP fandom.
