Honestly, I can't help but think that DW might do better with a show runner who DIDN'T grow up with the show, and thus doesn't use being a show runner as a way to fulfill his or her fantasies about the The Doctor and/or his compactions, which I kind of feel like both RJD and Moffat have done.

Agreed 100%. This is also why I can't stand Tennant, because there's just way too much "WATCH MEEE DOO THIS THANG YO YO YO MY TEN-YEARS-OLD SELF IS SO VINDICATED RN" vibe, no matter how hard he tried to actually do the job. Example, there was a gif set going around Tumblr with Tennant and the "I don't want to go" whinefest scene, where he's sitting behind the scenes, going "I just don't think I injected ENOUGH emotion into it" -- to which Tumblr collectively replied, "It could have been worse?? Are you kidding me??"

Same thing with Moffat's writing. It is painfully bad fanfic, unbeta'd fanfic, at that.

Didn't someone post an interview with Capaldi (12/13) saying he wasn't really a fan of the show? Let's just hope the next showrunner is the same.

LMAO.

CAPALDI IS A HUGE FAN OF THE SHOW.

Here's a collection of articles and stuff about that: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/80376598.html

It's actually pretty funny.

*scratches head* Now I'm wondering what I read...ah well. Here's hoping he doesn't end up being in the same position as Colin Baker, in that case. (Yeah yeah I liked Six tell me how strange I am :-P)

Oh, no, that wouldn't work either.

See: the wank about JJ Abrams and Star Trek. I don't think there is anyway to win here. You're either too much of a fan (with your fanboy fantasies) or not enough of one (you just don't get it).

JJ's probably wasn't that he wasn't a Star Trek fanboy, but that he was a Star Wars fanboy. He tried to turn Trek into Wars, which is just not happening. And then what ever fanboys wrote Into Darkness just dredged up old water.

I think you have to understand the spirit of the series but not fixate on it. So like, a casual fan or not a fan that can research what the creators were trying to do.

Not to mention Moffat is Verity Lamberts son in law, so they are incredibly embroiled.

Nope. Just cos they have the same surname, doesn't mean they're related.
