Apparently. I don't know what you watched, but I watched the avengers, an otherwise acceptable movie apart from the mandatory "romance" with the only female character. If your movie didn't have black widow being a fucking lovie dovie smurfette, then I think I would have liked your movie better.

black widow being a fucking lovie dovie smurfette

Okay, you had be until that. A+ trolling anon.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a troll, are you new to the internet?

And yes, she's a smurfette. She's in the movie for the bad guys to make rape threats at, and to save her beloved fucking "Partner". To be threatened and to be in love, and the only woman in the movie to boot = Smurfette.

looooooooooooool

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
She only outsmarted the fucking 'god of mischief' into telling what his plan was

She only beat the shit out of the russian dudes

She only went and got Bruce and brought him back to SHIELD

She only beat the shit out of Hawkeye to break the brainwashing (oh wait I guess that's just ~saving her "PARTNER" WINKWINK NUDGNUDGE I guess that doesn't count)

She only hijacked the Chitauri flying motorbike thing idk what those things are called

PLUS I mean okay Maria Hill wasn't an Avenger but she was still pretty badass so no, Black Widow was not the only female in the movie

Fucking Thank you. Every vulnerability you see from Natasha is crafted. She's a badass fucking spy and she gets shit done a lot more efficiently than a lot of guys. Acting hurt? She made Loki feel powerful and then ripped the rug right out from under him after she got what she wanted. I think the only time you REALLY see her shaken is after facing the Hulk, and really, who wouldn't? Tony had the same look on his face when he nearly got blown up in some of his movies. For a human, she holds her own against super powers amazingly well.

PLUS FUCKING ONE.

THIS. And I liked how they portrayed her fear of the Hulk. It highlighted her weaknesses. Natasha can beat anything she can punch, shoot, or manipulate. You can't do any of those things to the Hulk. That scene was juxtaposed with all her other scenes to highlight her capabilities but show that she wasn't flawless.

A+

And the rest of us watched "The Avengers," a movie with no kissing, no dating, no romantic looks or guestures, and a scene where Black Widow explicitly says "I'm not in love with him."

Hint: intentional romantic subplots have resolution. We know you're reading too much into it because there was no resolution.

Question. I agree that there wasn't super blatant subtext with Natasha and Clint (it could have gone either way but it wasn't OMG OBV ENDGAME) but I don't remember her saying that. Could you refresh me?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Is this love, Agent Romanoff?"

"Love is for children, I owe him a debt."

but that's not explicitly saying "I'm not in love with him"

in fact that read to me as being very deliberately vague, or at least, trying to play it up a certain way.

It was delivered directly, frankly, and immediately, indicating that she wasn't lying or trying to be cagey but was actually stating what she believed

If they had ended up in a relationship at the end, it could have been read a different way, but that coupled with the complete absense of resolution makes it pretty clear, IMO.

Clearly the anon in question is the dark mirror of the more rabid shippers out there: all the batshit jumping to conclusions for evidence of the ship, but without actually liking the pairing.

I felt everything she said to Loki was part of the act. There was no definite indication that she was in love with Clint, but I also don't think that's a definite indication that she wasn't. And I also don't understand why them winding up in a relationship has to be a requisite for her potential feelings to be a real thing. Maybe he doesn't return them, or maybe it's not urgent, or maybe it's for a different movie, or maybe they really didn't want to make it a focus (that would be refreshing tbh - to have it exist but not be a huge screen time sucker), or maybe they just really didn't want to interfere with the endgame and resolution of The Avengers with a romantic subplot, which I totally understand and appreciate; I thought the movie was excellent. Or maybe she really doesn't have romantic feelings for him. We really don't know. (I'd be ok with it either way. I just love their close partnership; romantic or platonic endgame would make me happy, either one, as long as it was one well.)
