Thesis success! (and advice request)

I just heard back from my advisor that my graduate thesis is excellent! I am so psyched about this, you guys, because my project was absolutely huge and it took a lot of fine-line-walking to make sure that I balanced the scope properly.

I was really freaked out because it really was huge and complicated, and I was worried about doing the material justice. But apparently I did! I managed to overcome the limitations of my project and resources, and own that thing.

Now to ask for some advice. This is technically my "last" semester in that I've applied for graduation at the end of this semester, but I'm finally finding my niche. I'm fascinated and passionate about my topic and my work, and I really want to keep studying it and doing research.

But I'm torn; if I graduate now, I have a better chance of being accepted by a job I am applying to, but it's by no means a certain thing. There's a good chance I might get paid for my research, which is a good bonus, but even if I didn't I'm still interested enough about my field that I don't really care. I'm just kind of uncertain and discomfited about my options. Anybody have any advice?

My best advice is talk to your advisor/professors and also talk to people in your field who have graduated and get both of their feedback on what their daily life is and what you'd be expected to do. Also find out what is more valuable in your field-research or experience. In mine, it's mostly field experience. A friend of mine in chemistry, it's all about the research.

You gotta do what you love, OP. Can you make academia pay?
