My best advice is talk to your advisor/professors and also talk to people in your field who have graduated and get both of their feedback on what their daily life is and what you'd be expected to do. Also find out what is more valuable in your field-research or experience. In mine, it's mostly field experience. A friend of mine in chemistry, it's all about the research.
