I don't know how they managed it, since Nat P is super gorgeous and talented and one of my favorite actresses ever, but Thor/Jane is so cripplingly boring my eyes glaze over whenever they're onscreen together. And that's especially weird because I personally think all the other canonical romances in MCU were more or less well-done? Tony/Pepper and Steve/Peggy were a joy to watch, and I actually cried real tears when Betty reunited with Bruce in TIH. Just. Urgh.

Same here, I like Natalie P, but this story line is so stupid. I think I'm also sort of sick of the evident 'omg let's make our female love interest look strong and fierce by uselessly punching gods in the face because it's so funny and also strong yeah', and the same goes for Darcy and all the idiotic oneliners. There's only so much of 'look we have strong witty women here' I can stand, because lately it's too much of a trend clearly overdone in such a way to try and sell us these movies.

Pepper is cool.

AYRT

I think the Thor Honest Trailer hit the nail on the head with this one (dammit, was that a hammer pun?). Like, Jane is this brilliant astrophysicist with super model looks who just happens to be single and stationed in the tiny New Mexican town Thor plops down in. Okay, so far so good, but then their entire courtship takes place over what amounts to a long weekend, and then he fucks off and doesn't call or write for 2 years??? And the moment they reunite they're thrust into yet another world-ending conflict, conveniently negating all needs to focus on developing the actual relationship?

Good romances are built on a strong mutual history between the characters. We got that in the other films, but not here. The actors do have chemistry together, but after two movies their entire relationship is still mostly cute awkward fish-out-of-water moments. You've had your chance and have failed to sell me on this, Marvel. The uneven 'humor' in Thor 2 definitely didn't help, it was so jarring given the dark elements in the film. I didn't want a joyless affair but was some balance too much to ask for?
