I would love to see a Thor movie that is centered on Loki and Thor and Asgard tbh.

Thing is, I read that Thor 3 is confirmed, but I only had 1 second of joy, and then I realized it's always going the same old shit: Jane and Thor trying to be a couple, Darcy being ohohsowitty, and Earth people being boring basically. I don't know if I can handle it again, honestly.

A Hiddleston!Loki movie can't be possible I think? Since he's the villain in all the movies... I suppose it would be a lot more interesting than a Thor movie, maybe they could finally have Thor in there too, without the usual humans.

I don't know guys, am I the only one who's seriously underwhelmed by the Jane plot line? As far as I'm concerned Thor has been reduced to an infinite otherworldly romantic escapade... I mean, he's almost immortal isn't he? Can't we, like, move forward or at least backward?

is this a serious fucking question, really, everyone hates Jane and her plot line.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
ok I guess. I was overwhelmed by tumblr posts about Jane being cool/not-so-crappy/almost useful on Thor 2, so I figured she was growing on people. Tbh my main issue is Darcy though, she literally makes it impossible for me to watch the whole movie.

everyone who is misogynist you mean.

I love Jane, all the haters are welcome to form a line to the left.

Jane is A+

I'd happily watch a movie about Thor and Jane cavorting around Earth. Doing science, fighting evil, and being awesome.

Yessss, this is relevant to my interests completely.

This! She's not my favorite comic lady, or even my favorite Thor lady (Sif!), but I quite enjoyed her in the Thor movies.

I like her a lot and I think she's great with Thor and their "I like the way you explain things" relationship is just fucking cute, okay.

No, not everyone hates her and her plotline. I personally adore her and I am sick of seeing a lot of hate of her character in general, is she the most amazingly written lady ever? No, but I still love her because her general dorkishness and science love endears me to her like mad.

I do wish she had been more than a plot device in the first part of TDW but I don't heap that annoyance on her character when it's the writers fault for doing that.

She's really cute, yea. The way she stood up for herself when Odin was being a dick was awesome, as was her covering Thor with her tiny little body when he was about to be crushed. Her geeking out about science is adorable too.

They're not my favorite couple by far, but I've always liked them. They did a little better with their romance this time around as well.

She's super cute, and kind of awkward which is part of the reason why I like her so much. I wanted to see more of her bonding with Frigga, but tbh I just wanted more Frigga in general. Seeing her geek out over science is the best, and when she was all 'it's a quantum field generator' in the healing room I had a huge grin on my face.

Agreed, even if I don't feel the Thor/Jane stuff that much myself they have some wonderfully sweet moments and it is better handled in TDW.
elaminator: (Thor: She searches for you)

Kind of awkward is something I can well sympathize with; it's endearing.

Me too. :( Frigga was one of the best parts of the movie. I would've liked to see more of Frigga with EVERYONE though; less Odin more Frigga might not be realistic, but it would've been awesome all the same.

Seeing her geek out over science is the best, and when she was all 'it's a quantum field generator' in the healing room I had a huge grin on my face.

I know! She's such a lovely character. Maybe not the most fascinating or most exciting, but Marvel could've done much worse.

The moment she covers Thor to protect him was so sweet.

I know this bit gets a lot of hate but I also love that she went up to Loki and punched him without flinching. Yeah ok there were people around who would've probably killed him had he retaliated but that still took guts from Jane.

Will admit I wasn't a fan in the first film but there was a definite improvement even though she still ended up being a plot device for a while.
elaminator: (Thor: Sif smiling)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-11-19 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yaaay, I'm glad other people agree. Jane is a strong character; like you said, she's got guts, too. The fact that she tries her best to protect Thor and the others really impresses me. Plus, she did help them succeed. Maybe she was a plot device for a bit, but at least she wasn't always a damsel in distress, and she's far from a pushover.

It doesn't surprise me that fandom takes issue with that. Imo Loki has gotten off pretty lightly considering the shit he's pulled; Jane punching him was nothing. He deserves worse, and I say this as someone who doesn't hate him.

I think Marvel is learning. Hopefully they won't make Thor/Jane the focus of any of the future movies; people wouldn't be pleased and I'm not certain Marvel wouldn't fuck it up. But I like Jane, support Thor/Jane and don't mind them including it.

....oh god. Thor 3 with just Thor and Jane and Darcy and Earth. Ugh. UGGGHHHHHHHH. UGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Loki (and Thor) was what kept me sane while watching Thor 2. By the end I wanted to punch Darcy in the throat every time she gave one of her sarcastic one liners.

I thought I was alone for real on this... how atrocious is she? I hate that kind of character. I can stand Jane better, maybe also because it's Natalie P, but seriously, I have to skip all the scenes with Darcy.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how they managed it, since Nat P is super gorgeous and talented and one of my favorite actresses ever, but Thor/Jane is so cripplingly boring my eyes glaze over whenever they're onscreen together. And that's especially weird because I personally think all the other canonical romances in MCU were more or less well-done? Tony/Pepper and Steve/Peggy were a joy to watch, and I actually cried real tears when Betty reunited with Bruce in TIH. Just. Urgh.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here, I like Natalie P, but this story line is so stupid. I think I'm also sort of sick of the evident 'omg let's make our female love interest look strong and fierce by uselessly punching gods in the face because it's so funny and also strong yeah', and the same goes for Darcy and all the idiotic oneliners. There's only so much of 'look we have strong witty women here' I can stand, because lately it's too much of a trend clearly overdone in such a way to try and sell us these movies.

Pepper is cool.

I think the Thor Honest Trailer hit the nail on the head with this one (dammit, was that a hammer pun?). Like, Jane is this brilliant astrophysicist with super model looks who just happens to be single and stationed in the tiny New Mexican town Thor plops down in. Okay, so far so good, but then their entire courtship takes place over what amounts to a long weekend, and then he fucks off and doesn't call or write for 2 years??? And the moment they reunite they're thrust into yet another world-ending conflict, conveniently negating all needs to focus on developing the actual relationship?

Good romances are built on a strong mutual history between the characters. We got that in the other films, but not here. The actors do have chemistry together, but after two movies their entire relationship is still mostly cute awkward fish-out-of-water moments. You've had your chance and have failed to sell me on this, Marvel. The uneven 'humor' in Thor 2 definitely didn't help, it was so jarring given the dark elements in the film. I didn't want a joyless affair but was some balance too much to ask for?
