You can post some truly extraordinary piece and the Tumblr droves will like a mediocre piece much more because of a popular subject, or something cute or clever. Animated gifs are popular. Tumblrites will like and repost a mediocre gif over a good screenie.
2. The internet changes and it changes fast. Odds are whoever on the official site who's decided to ignore you for whatever reason is going to move on, rl, a new shiny, etc, and someone new, or a new format will replace them. Let time be on your side, come back later, or catch on to the new thing that's going to make Tumblr a decrepit wasteland, which is going to happen in years to come as it does to every other site.
Don't let this crap get to you.
