My interest in a fandom tends to wax and wane...you'll probably come back around to it eventually. IF you really want to finish the fic now, sometimes rewatching your favorite episodes in the canon can get you reinterested again.

Yeah, it does suck when you lose interest in/move on from a fandom right when you're working on something. Personal example, I was in the middle of a fill for a kink meme and I completely and utterly lost interest in the fandom at that time. I still feel a twinge of regret remembering the anon who asked me if I was going to continue it and after I told them basically 'No', how legitimately sad they seemed to be in their response.

Maybe in time you'll gravitate back to that particular fandom, but it's okay to move on and not go back either. (I've done that with a few fandoms. I still enjoy the source material, but thinking of getting back into the fandom leaves me with this visceral 'do not want' reaction)

I am shoulders-deep in a gigantic Doctor Who pony custom series (three of eight finished, two in the incredibly difficult middle stages, three not even started oh God what was I thinking), and the show itself is just grinding down my enthusiasm. I keep reminding myself that these are customs specifically designed to embody my favorite era, but I am still so glad that someone accepted my offer of an unrelated gift custom because it means I get to get away from having a pair of half-finished Weeping Angels* glaring at me. Hopefully I'll feel a little more enthused about the project after a break.

*Two so that I can make sure they're looking at each other at all times, obviously.

It took me a year to update the last chapter of my Gravi fic on ff.net in high school as my love for it had waned. But then it came back, and bam! Last chapter done. So you might still finish it in the future. But if not, that's okay too. There are other awesome fandoms out there to write for.

I have a fic that I want to work on but I was fighting with people in a fandom that I just wanted to leave it. I guess working on the fic is why I am still in it.

I find that I start coming up with ideas for fanfic, especially AUs, as my interest is fading. Then there's this mad rush to get at least a little bit written before it completely fizzles out.

Fortunately, I'm likely to get back into that fandom, or at least the fic, and I can just pick up there.

I just recently finished two multi-chapter stories that were conceived in 2004, in a fandom I haven't been active in for years. Coming across the canon again gave me a kick and somehow brought back all the excitement without any of the burnout baggage.

Could happen for you too, anon.

LOL! Sorry, but it's such a perfectly funny picture to go so well with the secret.

Love the picture you chose! And yeah, it sucks when you're losing interest right when you're in the middle of making a fanwork. That's happened to me a fair few times. I'd say don't force yourself to finish the fic and instead wait until you revisit the canon and/or fandom to get some of the magic back (maybe it's burnout?)... but you might not ever want to revisit the canon, and that's fine. In any case, good luck with the fic if you plan on continuing it!
