If FS were to hold a Secret Santa type event, would you be interested in participating?

It would be primarily for fic/art/other fandomy things (giving out strangers' RL mailing addresses is kinda risky and all). And small fandomy things, like one sketch or a one-shot fic, nobody would be asking for a 100k novel! Unless you want to write someone a 100k novel.

There'd be a sign-up post where participants could list all the fandoms they'd be willing to write for/get gifts from, and everyone who signed up would get someone to gift for, etc. Unfortunately that'd mean anons can't play, as I'd be unable to tell which is which and one person could request 5 gifts and never give any, but everyone else would be welcome!

Let me know if there's interest!

I...might actually be willing to create a Dreamwidth account for that, if there was enough interest.

Absolutely. Secret santas are one of my favorite things.

Unfortunately I am lacking in creative talents, but it sounds like fun! There are a bunch of talented folks here, I'd love to see this take off. Even though I can't participate I think it'd still be a fun community thing to see happen.

That's great, but those of us who can't write or draw can't really participate--which isn't a reason not to do it! Just that it's going to be really small. Hell, I don't think I could.

As an addendum, if people with Steam accounts would be interested in a Steam gifts exchange I'd be up for that -- I've done it before to good effect. And it'd be a nice alternative to those of us whose creative talents aren't applicable to fandom.

That sounds like fun and I might participate, but I'm thinking it might be hard to match up everyone, given the broad range of fandoms and interests that people here have.

It's a nice idea, but I'm afraid there aren't many people here I share fandoms with. I've seen a grand total of two others on F!S who are familiar with my main fandom...and one of those was an anon bashing it. Alas.

At first I thought "bummer", 'cause all those secret santa exchanges I keep seeing around on Yuletide and Reddit and so on require shipping stuff around -- and I just can't afford that. But this? I'd be thrilled to take part! I'm into a lot of obscure/rare fandoms as well, so maybe that could be useful :3

May I suggest running the fic-side at least on AO3? That way people could post their stuff themselves (so you don't have to bother) whenever they finish, and it'll all be kept anonymous until the chosen reveal date.

I'd like that! I, uh, I'm not the most creative or practiced writer/artist, so it probably wouldn't be brilliant, but I assume I'm not the only person here like that? I'd do it just for the fun and the community ^^

I think that's a great idea! I feel there's a greater diversity of fandoms and interests here on f!s than most other places I hang out at so I'd be happy to participate.
