Nothing wrong with your taste, KNK is pretty bad, KLK is great. Plus KLK sexualizes everyone, men and women.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by the male sexualization in later episodes, especially the shadowed crotch shot. I'm not really comfortable with either though.

And yeah KnK's the best trainwreck of the season. I was hoping KyoAni would be able to pull off it off but I wasn't expecting much.

This may be going off topic, if it is, just ignore me, but how bad does KnK get? I was thinking of watching it and I want to have a sense of the quality I'm getting into. I haven't heard as much about it compared to KLK.

Pretty bad. Several minutes of each episode are spent on the two male leads being super gross to the two female leads.

Its pacing and tone's just all over the place and isn't really enjoyable if you're taking it seriously. Given, I haven't consistently watched it, but Mirai, the protag, has a lot of forced cute and clumsiness that played for laughs but that doesn't really work well when you're trying to take her seriously as youkai (basically evil spirit monsters) hunter. Then there's this half youkai dude's that has a glasses fetish and goes to her school. Plot twist about him is that the fact he's a half youkai is actually sometimes a danger to other people, which was a concern in the first episode. Then there's the guy with scarf that's half youkai dude's senpai that doesn't really have personality beyond that he has a thing for his younger sister, feels up half youkai dude sometimes, and does some pretty spiffin' background dancing when the main cast is doing a idol dance thing to defeat a youkai.

It isn't super awful like some people have been making it out to be, but definitely isn't my top pick for the season. The reason why KNK is getting bashed is because it /has/ potential but has been mostly falling flat of the potential. It is gorgeously animated if that's a thing you care about. Also fuzzy fat purple mascot character has my favorite design.

I think you hit it on the head. The biggest thing KnK is doing wrong is that it keeps wasting its fucking time on meaningless shit when it should theoretically be developing its characters. The story is so thin and underdeveloped and then they have a filler fanservice episode. Okay fine. You get ONE. But then it's surrounded by episodes where not much happens and it's just like... ugh. There are two episodes where Shit Happens and they are by far the best ones, but they are brought down because they are floating amidst a mess of writing and underdeveloped characters.

I still kind of enjoy it though, because I like Mirai even though she's not the best written thing out there. Overall I'd give it a C/C-.

But yeah it's not awful and I find it far more bearable then the mass of cra-ha-HAAAAAAAAAZY hi-jinks that is Kill la Kill. The anime version of lol randum humor but with tits. (Who would've thought saving anime was this fucking easy???)

You're missing the point so hard, my friend. This is a Kyoani anime, you don't watch it for the plot, yo uwatch it to see cute girls doing cute things, forced moe, am I cute Uuguuu and girls acting like they have mental retardation.

That may be the common excuse, but I don't think so. I think Kyoani is trying to create a good show. Good writing is a BIG part of that. I think they ARE trying to make something well written. Free! was a very well-written show, and surely they know that.

And if it's all for fanservice then they are kind of dropping the ball. There's not really that much.
