Eh, I was more confused the day I stopped noticing fanservice. Panty shots and gainaxing used to mortify me.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with your taste, KNK is pretty bad, KLK is great. Plus KLK sexualizes everyone, men and women.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was kind of surprised by the male sexualization in later episodes, especially the shadowed crotch shot. I'm not really comfortable with either though.

And yeah KnK's the best trainwreck of the season. I was hoping KyoAni would be able to pull off it off but I wasn't expecting much.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
This may be going off topic, if it is, just ignore me, but how bad does KnK get? I was thinking of watching it and I want to have a sense of the quality I'm getting into. I haven't heard as much about it compared to KLK.

Pretty bad. Several minutes of each episode are spent on the two male leads being super gross to the two female leads.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Its pacing and tone's just all over the place and isn't really enjoyable if you're taking it seriously. Given, I haven't consistently watched it, but Mirai, the protag, has a lot of forced cute and clumsiness that played for laughs but that doesn't really work well when you're trying to take her seriously as youkai (basically evil spirit monsters) hunter. Then there's this half youkai dude's that has a glasses fetish and goes to her school. Plot twist about him is that the fact he's a half youkai is actually sometimes a danger to other people, which was a concern in the first episode. Then there's the guy with scarf that's half youkai dude's senpai that doesn't really have personality beyond that he has a thing for his younger sister, feels up half youkai dude sometimes, and does some pretty spiffin' background dancing when the main cast is doing a idol dance thing to defeat a youkai.

It isn't super awful like some people have been making it out to be, but definitely isn't my top pick for the season. The reason why KNK is getting bashed is because it /has/ potential but has been mostly falling flat of the potential. It is gorgeously animated if that's a thing you care about. Also fuzzy fat purple mascot character has my favorite design.

It's okay. You are allowed to like problematic things. I don't think it's a matter of hypocrisy or anything, as long as you're not denying that the thing you like is problematic at all. Also, I don't know either show, but based on the pictures in the secret they have two very different types of sexualization, and I would agree that the top one looks skeevier based on those two pictures alone.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
None of them are problematic, they just have fanservice.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
oh u

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be argued that's problematic in itself.

Eh, screw what others may think. Some shows the fanservice just...clicks and you honestly don't notice it. But in others, it's uncomfortably in your face and it shouldn't be.

Depends on the show, style, story, characters, etc. Just....let it go and enjoy what you're watching.

(fuck "Let it Go" from Frozen has been in my head for the last three days and gah/random)

At this point KNK is honestly grossing me out more than KLK. At least KLK isn't trying to push a deep relationship/romance between the lead female and a guy who is constantly sexualizing her, objectifying the hell out of her, and overall making her massively uncomfortable.

I don't think that one is really 'worse' than the other, but like you, for some reason KNK gets under my skin more.

but he isn't really making her uncomfortable

What. She gets visibly and vocally skeeved out by it almost every time he does it.

sneaky we-going-to-pretend-this-isn't-skeevy fanservice vs. blatantly acknowledged we-get-it-bodies-are-hottie fanservice?

Sounds like the difference between a David Cage game and Bayonetta.

Not quite.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
tbh I'd rather watch knk's uguu moeshit fanservice than klk's hi-LAR-ious rape jokes and victim blaming.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's got dumb rape jokes sure but I honestly don't remember any victim blaming.

Y'know, it'd be one thing if everyone was just nodding their heads at the lead males in KNK being skeevy, but 110% of the time, they get shot down/made fun of/ignored/treated like they're being skeevy. In KLK, they get their power for accepting the fact their tits are hanging out. They glorify what KNK routinely and habitually puts down.

I stopped watching KLK because damn that shit's too far over the top. One cheesecake episode and a couple of obviously crapped-upon-for-being-that-way vocal pervs makes your skin crawl but KLK is aces? Color me confused.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind moe fanservice but I wish KNK would tone down Hiromi's little sister fetish and Akky's glasses fetish, but it's been so heavily ingrained into their characters. They use it as comedy and it's not meant to be taken seriously, but I wish they'd show more towards the girls beyond how they suit their fetishes.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kind of funny, in KLK the men are far more sexualized than the girls are (the girls show more skin, but usually it's just that, skin, they have less sexualized scenes than the guys have -see everytime the teacher appears and the focus on his nipples or the spanking scene with Sanageyama-), yet everybody is yelling SEXISM.
