(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)And I dunno, maybe cause I got used to read subtitles since kindergarten to watch Western shows, I don't get it when people said they have trouble watching things with subtitles.

I think it has to do (in my experience/opinion) with level of peripheral vision as well as how quickly a person reads.
When I read (books/manga/comics/whatever) I don't read word by word/line by line. I look at the paragraph and absorb the whole thing - my mom jokes that I read by osmosis.
Because of this watching things with subtitles is easy for me because I can glance at the words and then focus on the scene while they talk out that line, whereas my mother reads in the word-by-word manner and she cannot stand subtitled films because she's reading the words and not watching the film.
Now I'm sure this is something that most people could improve/'get over' if they exposed themselves to enough subtitled things, it's also possible that it's something they'll never really be good at.
