Re: Problems at/with church.

OP again

"I find it weird to say that you're "not liberal enough" for wanting to read the Bible"

According to the liberals, reading the Bible leads to conservatism. Which it doesn't, as the conservatives I mentioned above don't like to refer to the book, either. Unless they can selectively pick out a choice verse here or there and "interpret" it to fit what they say is true. So, neither of these two extremes think reading the Bible is a good idea at all. Mostly because the Bible directly contradicts/outright defies what both sides are calling "gospel truth."

"But if you don't want to follow what the religion says why are you in that religion...?"

Oh I want to follow what my religion says. More properly I want to follow what my religion has always taught. The leaders are trying to change this and like I say not for the better. My options for another faith community are unfortunately, zilch, and I am not in a position to be able to move anywhere where there is a congregation that is better than what I have to deal with.

sorry, anon, I meant general "you", talking about the people who were spurning the Bible entirely. I wasn't talking about you xD;

I completely agree with you fwiw.

All I can say is that if your church is trying to tell you there is something wrong with reading the Bible, and are turning in a direction totally different to what you grew up knowing, maybe you will have to stop going.

I know that is not a great option - church is a great social opportunity - but if it means compromising what you believe is God's Truth... I still favour God's Truth before socialisation. You can always pray and read the Bible at home, without people judging you for it.

(And I do believe it's not the Bible that causes conservatism, but how we interpret it.)

I'm a liberal and I think reading the bible leads to atheism.
