But...they're both anime style.

Ah, but they're both two different kinds of anime style, anon.

Can you legitimately not tell that the top one is a super-cartoonish caricature, and the bottom one has at least semi-realistic proportions?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but OP said "I prefer the cartoon quality to the anime quality" and that makes no sense, as they are both cartoons and both anime.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that still makes sense. One is more "cartoonish" (unrealistic proportions, exaggerated features, spaghetti limbs) and the other more closely resembles your average anime.

The top one looks more like My Little Pony which might explain why some people like it more than the other. The top style is more cutesy and funny. They're both perfectly okay art styles though.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The top is more 'chibi' and the lower style is just more 'regular'. Chibi's been around as an anime style for ages.

OP

Yes, you are correct. I was trying to describe how they looked different from each other by saying one has a more western cartoon style while the other has a more Japanese cartoon style. TTG! is very brightly colored and "cutesy" while TT is more like what you would expect from a typical anime. I understand that they're both "anime style", but that was my way of forming a distinction between them and why I like one more than the other. Sorry for the confusion and poor choice of words.

Which is kind of funny because I think of the newer TTG very typical chibi anime, whereas I think of TT as more western with anime influences.
