Why isn't this a good thing? Ban was awesome, grumpy and violent, but awesome.

Giant cheap jerk who was antisocial and rude to basically everyone, even if deep down he had a lot of talent and a good heart - which no one except Ginji could see because he was a giant cheap jerk? And then there was that thing where he kept doing terrible things to his friends (see the Miroku siblings, Himiko, etc.). Not because he wanted to, or intended to, but pretty much everyone who once knew him eventually wanted him dead.

I remember when GB came out, people thought Ginji sort of needed Ban to take care of him because Ginji was so innocent and childlike that he needed protection... I'm pretty sure it was the same in reverse. Ban would have self-destructed without Ginji's belief in the better parts of him. And in the manga, he nearly threw that away in a fit of self-righteous fury too. (Fueled by fear, IMO, but still. Harsh.)

Don't get me wrong, I like him an awful lot. Mostly I like him a lot because the fact he managed to get through everything and still has someone by his side sorta gives me hope.
