Con stories!
(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)What sort of cringe-worthy stories do you have about conventions you've gone to? You can post fun stuff that happened too!
Re: Con stories!
Fun: Watching shows with other people that the collective haven't seen yet. It's fun to see everyone's expressions and cries of no or yes.
Re: Con stories!
Re: Con stories!
As for why anyone would want to buy it and think it's ok to hit people with it: they never learned proper etiquette spending more time on yaoi and think a convention is a magical place where you can be anime.
Re: Con stories!
Re: Con stories!
Then idiots started going around actually using them to hit people and ... yeah, there is a particular breed of yaoi fangirl that makes me much more inclined to use the word "slash" even when it IS Japanese media.
Re: Con stories!
Good: As a zombie I got random zombie hugs from other zombies. Each of us move so slowly that it gives you a chance to say yes or no to the hug and once you do or do not get one both of you just shuffle off in the direction you were going before. It's harmless, nice, and a good mood-lifter.
Re: Con stories!
Guy: So who are you dressed as?
Me: Celes, from Final Fantasy 6.
Guy: Oh, that game was great! But I don't remember her looking like you.
Me: *laughs* Yeah, I'm doing the Amano design, the in-game sprite was pretty different.
Guy: No, I mean - I don't remember her being as HOT as you.
Me: ...Thanks...
And he kept asking me personal questions after that, and touching my arm, and my side, and eventually my thigh, so I decided to give up on Rock Band for awhile. "Oh hey, I was supposed to meet my friend for a shoot - seeya! *runs off*" :P
At that same con though, I met another guy who was cosplaying the Amano version of Locke, who was really funny, and we took some pictures together by the fountain that came out HORRIBLY because the wind was blowing and cold water was falling on us and we were grimacing at it and stuff, hahahah. We were tagged in Facebook later and I was like "LOLOLOL WHAT WERE WE DOING?!" And he has this whole circle of friends who also enjoy cosplaying older FF games, and I've gradually been introduced to so many awesome people through randomly indulging the "Hey Celes, let's get up on the fountain!" whim. XD
I also had my girlfriend there as Locke, but she'd wandered off during that photoshoot (talking to a DS version FF4 Cecil, hahah), but the next day we were in the costumes again and discovered that in the con's big "chill out and have some relaxing activities" room, there was randomly an FF6 world map on the floor that people were encouraged to write their names on and sort of claim their home or something. So we have a picture of Locke and Celes sitting together on the world map!
I have SOOOO many con stories. Mostly really fun ones. The cringe-worthy ones, for the record, aside from this and a couple Tiger & Bunny anecdotes, are almost entirely involving Homestuck and Hetalia cosplayers, which is why I instinctively steer clear of those fandoms unless it's someone I already know to be cool who just happens to enjoy the canon in spite of the fandoms being cesspools. :P
Re: Con stories!
(Anonymous) 2013-11-24 02:48 am (UTC)(link)This also reminded me that I've totally been debating the logistics of cosplaying Kain. Or at least, a FF dragoon. Considering I have never cosplayed, this would be next to impossible. :P
Re: Con stories!
(But since I pulled it off and I am proud of it, here, have some pics. XD Though you probably meant of the FF6... Here's one of me with my own Locke. You don't sound like a creeper - cosplayers generally like showing off! At least to other fans. Random fanboys who don't know what we're cosplaying and are behaving inappropriately - it's not for them. :P)
Re: Con stories!
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)The Locke and Celes one is gorgeous too. :) Thanks for sharing these, I've missed geeking out about Final Fantasy, haha.
Re: Con stories!
- Being offered plane tickets to Cons plus hotel fare if I or my group would have sex in costume
- One of my group members being stalked by a 50+ year old woman. Said cosplayer was 19.
- Being invited to various threesomes with married couples
- The Yaoi paddles. Oh my god.
- People offering to pay for "fanservice" pics (I'll pay you if you'll kiss so-and-so, it's my OTP!)
- Meeting online friends who turned out to be stalkers *this was rare
- Being groped by fangirls on a pretty much constant basis while in costume
- Being just generally asked to simulate sex acts for photos. Without being paid. I don't know if that's better or worse than the people offering to pay.
- One of my group members being harassed by a certain photographer for nude shoots, who then got angry and followed said cosplayer around to every Con she went to for a year after they refused.
